Impact of US tariffs
Apr 10, 2025Dear US Kfriday members,
On April 2, President Trump signed an executive order that will substantially affect global trade.
Specifically for South Korea (Kfriday), the executive order stipulates an increased reciprocal tariff rate of 10% (25% at first).
What you need to know:
- If customs value is declared at 800 USD or less, these shipments continue to benefit from the de minimis exemption, allowing them to enter the U.S. duty-free.
- If customs value is over $800, a 10% tariff is imposed.
- If items are found to be produced from China or Hong Kong, a higher tariff (125% as of April 10) is imposed.
It is very difficult to predict how much your import tax will actually be because it is unclear yet how these changes will be implemented and enforced in practice.
What you need to do:
We advise you to forward less than $800 worth of goods at a time.
- Pack under $800 worth of goods. When you request Packing, you can see the total value. Note that due to exchange rate fluctuations, the declared value when shipped may change a bit.
- When requesting Order for Me (OFM; read), with which you get discounts on our warehouse services, you can do the following so that each OFM package is worth less than $800.
- submit so that each request’s total value is under $800; OR
- ask us in the Note field to check out under $800 at a time.
- If for whatever reason, your OFM package is worth >$800, you can always request Split (read) to divide the package into multiple packages, thereby lowering the value per package.
Thank you for your continued trust in our service.
